In the last review, you could read my take on Ava DuVernay’s masterpiece When They See Us. Today, I want to review something that is totally different: a Senegalese show called Maîtresse d’un homme marié. Translated, it means ‘Mistress of a married man’. The first episode aired late January this year on 2sTV and on the MarodiTV YouTube channel. When I came back from Senegal last year, I wanted to continue improving my Wolof. Therefore, I decided to watch this popular Senegalese show called Pod et Marichou. While I was watching that, I came across a trailer for this new series called Maîtresse d’un Homme Marié. I have been watching it ever since it aired and I definitely want to share some more. Leggo.

Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar Sea Plaza: I’m back in Senegal!

Yes, I am back in Senegal and this time I’m staying at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dakar Sea Plaza! Normally when I go to Senegal, I stay with family. This is pretty common and also less complicated at times. This time, however, I was actually invited and it’s more of a business trip than leisure. Either way, I am definitely excited to tell you all about this trip to Senegal with you guys. Radisson Blu Hotel, Dakar Sea Plaza is where this journey starts. Let’s go!

Review: When They See Us

When They See Us premiered May 31st on Netflix. The series is based on the true story of how five black teenage boys were falsely accused and convicted of rape. When They See Us breaks down the US criminal justice system during the Central Park Five case in four episodes. The series is written, created and directed by no one other than Ava DuVernay. She did an amazing job! Before we get into When They See Us, definitely check out my last review on Beyoncé’s Homecoming. Let’s go! Note: spoilers!

Monday Motivation: Speaking up

Speaking up is the first topic I want to talk about on Motivation Monday. I found the quote “If you are not going to speak up, how is the world supposed to know you exist?” in my archives. I remember screenshotting almost every quote I came across on Instagram and Tumblr. Actually, I still do it sometimes. I thought it would be a good idea to start sharing motivational quotes with you. Ever since I’m back in the Netherlands, I have not felt really motivated or inspired. Therefore, I would love to motivate you while I am trying to motivate myself. Does that excite you? Which is almost 5 years ago, but did you know Milk & Honey has been on the New York Times Best sellers list for 3 years STRAIGHT! All the more reason to get into this great book then, shall we?!

Homecoming by Beyoncé: an ode to HBCU’s and Black culture

Today, I am reviewing the documentary Homecoming by Beyoncé. A few weeks ago, Netflix released the trailer for Homecoming by Beyoncé. Last year, Beyoncé performed one of the most iconic shows during Coachella. Her documentary film Homecoming is an in-depth look into this iconic performance. Definitely read further if you want to know how instead of pulling up her flowercrown, Beyoncé pulled up her fist and paid homage to HBCu’s, Black culture AND Black women.

Independence Day: Senegal

Every year on April 4th, we celebrate the independence of Senegal. Therefore, I’d like to take this moment to share with you a part of Senegal’s colonial history. Even though I have spent a lot of times in Senegal, I don’t always think of its history. However, I do think it is important to look back on history and think about how we got to where we are today. Let’s refresh on some history!

Senegal 2017-18 recap

Today, I will bring a Senegal 2017-18 recap. Yes, I am in officially in the Netherlands and wearing much more clothing. I’ve had a wonderful time in Senegal, and I eventually stayed over a year. I’ve had the chance to do so many things! I got to see old friends, my family and I have met so many new, wonderful people. Let’s just get a recap of what I’ve done, ok?!
