Welcome to a new book review for the Twisted Book Club. Last time, I reviewed The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. Today is International Women’s Day and the UN’s Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. Therefore, I would like to talk about an important book. Namely, All the rage written by Courtney Summers (trigger warning: mentions of sexual trauma and rape). I personally think it is an important book, as it talks about the aftermath of sexual assault. Not a lot of books talk about what sexual assault actually does to its victims. At least not to this extent. The story is about Romy and how she deals with it. The book is written in such a way, that you really get into what is going on in Romy’s mind. It can be intense at times, however, it gives you a realistic look into it. So, let’s get angry!
Eating at All Fashion in Dakar
I have decided to add a new segment to my blog: #Food! Like many others, I love food. Here in Senegal, I go out to lunch almost every day with my colleagues. Which is great, we eat, drink, laugh and have good conversations. Therefore, I have decided that I want to share food-related experiences with you :). Even back in NL, I normally cook a lot. Other than that, I can watch Tasty videos all day long.
Today, we are eating at All Fashion in Dakar. The 12th of February was my birthday, and my colleagues and I decided to go out to eat at All Fashion at Almadies. This is the second time we’ve been eating at All Fashion. Even though the restaurant is literally next to our office, we barely eat there. However, today, I’ll bring you to lunch with me. Let’s just get to lunch!
Senegal: 37CINQ Cinema
Last month, I went to see Black Panther in the 37cinq cinema here in Dakar. It is my first time visiting a cinema while in Senegal. Well, I went to the cinema in Magic Land in 2015, however that was just a visit and not to watch a movie. Anyway, I did not expect to have been able to see Black Panther here in Senegal that soon. Therefore, I was beyond excited that there is not one cinema, but there are TWO! Let’s get into 37cinq!

The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
Welcome to another book-review for the Twisted Book Club! You can read the previous discussed book All the Bright Places here. This time I will review The Husband’s Secret written by Liane Moriarty. It is the first book I’ve read written by Liane Moriarty. I read the summary, and was pretty much convinced. Also, I was very curious as to what a husband could possibly write to his wife in a letter to be opened after his death. Are you curious too? Read further and start reading the book! Enjoy this review.
Black Panther in Senegal
It has been about two years that we have been waiting for the release of Marvel’s Black Panther. However, ever since the announcement, the world has been impatiently waiting for its release. Teasers have been circling all over the internet and throughout the world. This includes funny memes, GIFs and hashtags such as #InWakanda. Of course, I was one of the many people that has been waiting a long time for the Black Panther release. In January, I contacted the cinema’s here in Dakar, asking if and when they would screen Black Panther. I was definitely happy to hear that they would premiere Black Panther on February 16th. Certainly, I was happier when I reserved myself a ticket for the original version (English spoken) of Black Panther for last Friday! In this post, I will tell you all about it. Keep on reading :).

Dakar Digital Economy Symposium 2018
A while back, I went to the Dakar Digital Economy Symposium at the Radisson Blu hotel next to Sea Plaza. It was the first time attending such an event while in Senegal. In addition, it was Tigo that sponsored the event and I had the chance to help out. Therefore, I designed the badges and helped on the day of the event. Even though I do not know a lot about IT and how to build a start-up, businesses in emerging markets and the role of digitalisation are interesting. If you are curious about the Digital Economy Symposium 2018, keep on reading! (more…)
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Another book review for the Twisted Book Club! Last time, I reviewed Into the Water. This time, I read All the Bright Places written by Jennifer Niven (trigger warning: mentions of suicide). All the Bright Places is written from two perspectives. On one hand, you have Theodore Finch and on the other hand you have Violet Markey. They are both teenagers in High school somewhere in Indiana. The two actually meet by chance. Throughout the book Violet is struggling with guilt and remembering the car accident that killed her sister. While, Finch is struggling with his mental illness and his problems at home. Want to know my opinion? Keep on reading 🙂

That is why I want to take the time to share with you the different ways I like to wear my hair here in Senegal.
