Expo: Icônes by Vincent Bloch

Today, I want to share with you something really cool I did! I went to see Icônes by Vincent Bloch. He had his expo at Goethe Institut here in Dakar, and asked me to come. Of course, I was excited to go and wanted to bring you along. Icônes is all about futuristic female African icones. He looks at the women of tomorrow whom he has redrawn by using edited digital images. I definitely loved seeing it, and use Vincent’s creations to make something of my own.  Let’s go through Icônes by Vincent Bloch!

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

Welcome to another book-review for the Twisted Book Club! You can read the previously discussed book The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison. This time I will review One of Us is Lying written by Karen McManus. It is the first book I’ve read written by her. I read the summary, and was pretty excited to read the book. Also, I was very curious as to what could have possible happened during detention. Of course, I was also curious to why someone would want to kill this student. Are you curious too? Read further or start reading the book! Enjoy this review.

13 Reasons Why

Last year, the first season of 13 Reasons Why came on Netflix. The show on Netflix became a controversial topic, yet, it was very popular worldwide. A while ago, Netflix started streaming the second season of 13 Reasons Why. Of course, I watched that too and I had to get my thoughts together about this show. Mostly, because when season 1 came out last year, there were tons of memes and articles about the show. Some would argue that the show would increase suicides etc. while others would argue that it is a great way to start various conversations about controversial and multifaceted topics. I wanted to take my time and chip into this conversation. So, let’s get into the 13 Reasons Why topic. Trigger warning: mentions of rape, suicide and selfharm.

Korité in Podor

May was the beginning of Ramadan and the most part of Senegal was fasting. For a whole month, Muslims all over the world were fasting. And at the end of Ramadan, the same Muslims were celebrating Eid. In Senegal, Eid is called Korité. It is the first day after 29 or 30 days of fasting that Muslims are not permitted to fast. The Holiday celebrated the conclusion of the month of Ramadan. It is not the first time I have celebrated Eid or Korité in Senegal. Today, I will share with you how I celebrated Eid in Podor with my family. (more…)
